The Harris County Elections Administrator (EA) is committed to serving Harris County residents by providing essential voter registration and election services in an equitable, accessible, secure, and transparent manner.
Outreach & Communications Division:
The Outreach & Communications Division of the EA is responsible for effectively managing external relationships with community members and community stakeholders. By developing effective and inclusive outreach, organizing, mobilization, and information sharing strategies, we aim to improve civic engagement and empower communities by providing access to voting and voter registration.
Summary of Job Description:
The Outreach & Communications Division is seeking a passionate coalition builder with a knack for communicating effectively with a variety of stakeholders. This individual will work collaboratively within a team to support the Voter and Registration Team Manager and the Deputy Director of Voter and Registration Outreach in the development and implementation of strategic goals for engaging and empowering the community through voting and voter registration. The ideal candidate has a strong work ethic, a "Can Do" attitude, and is passionate about voting and conducting outreach in the community.
Duties and Responsibilities:
- Serving as liaison to stakeholders by developing a solid understanding of assigned communities – both academic and on the ground
- Conduct Volunteer outreach: recruitment, scheduling, and training
- Represent EA at appropriate meetings, presentations, and community events, as needed
- Maintain availability during non-traditional work hours for events
- Implement action plans by informing, organizing, and mobilizing various community stakeholders around voter registration and elections
- Contribute to the department’s daily operational tasks as delegated by the Director
- Prepare reports for management, community stakeholders, and other departments
- Learn from ‘best practice’ models to improve approach and action on community issues
- Physical labor (i.e. setting up and participating in events, etc.)

- Experience in movement building through fieldwork, nonprofit, union, government, or issue-based campaigns
- Education/internships may supplement work experience
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
- Working knowledge of community building and organizing techniques to engage community stakeholders to increase voter registration and electoral participation
- Working knowledge of Microsoft Office
- Demonstrated commitment to advancing responsive and effective government, systemic change, must have a keen eye for detail, and work well in collaborative and fluid environments
- Willingness to work long hours, including nights and weekends
- Must actively listen to all communities, build relationships, expand our partner base, and facilitate Volunteer Deputy Voter Registration training sessions, and additional training when necessary
- Ability to communicate in a respectful yet confident and effective manner
- Ability to work in a fast-paced, team-oriented environment
- Ability to meet goals and reporting requirements on a weekly basis under strict deadlines;
- Approachable personality, patience, and a positive attitude

- $21.25 - $39.32
- Depends on Qualifications
- Based on 26 Pay Periods
Work Conditions and Physical Demands:
The department seeks to empower constituencies to address issues of systemic change through coalition building and collective action. This job requires day-to-day attendance of events, meetings, outreach efforts around Harris County, which requires physical travel. Physical demands include traveling with outreach packets, demo voting equipment, and other necessary materials. This job operates in a professional office environment. This role routinely uses standard office equipment such as computers, phones, copiers, filing cabinets.
Employment may be contingent on passing a drug screen and meeting other standards.
