Voter Services Representative - Bilingual Chinese

Position Description

The Harris County Elections Administrator (EA) is committed to serving Harris County residents by providing essential voter registration and election services in an equitable, accessible, secure, and transparent manner.

The Customer Service representative is to perform most of all tasks related to troubleshooting election questions for callers. Know and understand the general operations of an election. Provide support to administrators on various administrative projects. Ability to work accurately and quickly under deadlines. Ability to learn quickly and handle a large volume of calls at times. Greet callers courteously with confidence. Able to assist Presiding Judges with the elections. Handle incoming calls from VDVR and Voter Registration. Bilingual (Chinese).

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Determines requirements by working with callers.
  • Answers inquires by clarifying desired information; researching, locating and providing information.
  • Fulfills request by clarifying desired information and forwarding requests.
  • Keeps equipment operational by following established procedures and reporting malfunctions.
  • Updates job knowledge by participating in training meetings.
  • Inventory, files and preps election materials for elections or archiving.
  • Enters mail requests into election management system (VEMS).
  • Tests phone lines daily.
  • Assists manager and or administrator on special projects.
  • Assists as interpreters for Outreach Department.
  • Assists with building the ballot and recording it.
  • Assists with ballot proofing
  • Multitasking on the phone and recording the calls in Cordial.
  • Be able to work Branch Locations within Harris County.

Education and Experience:

  • High school diploma or G.E.D. equivalent from an accredited educational institution.
  • Must be a Harris County Registered Voter.
  • Must be able to speak Chinese Fluently.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
  • Computer Literate.
  • Willingness to assist the judges with the E-pollbook.
  • Understand and operate the E-pollbook.
  • Ability to test phone lines.
  • Must be able to type at least 30 WPM.
  • Knowledge of using Microsoft 0ffice (Word /Excel).
  • Have outstanding written and verbal skills.
  • Must be able to input and update mail ballot requests accurately.

General Information

Position Type and Typical Hours of Work:

  • Regular Full-Time
  • Monday – Friday | 8:00 A.M. to 4:30 P.M.
    • Overtime hours mandatory during election cycle.
    • Must be able to work over time.

  • Salary range: $15.89 - $17.17
  • Based on 26 pay periods 
Work Environment:
  • This job operates in a professional office environment. This role routinely uses standard office equipment such as computers, phones, copiers, filling cabinets.
Physical Demands:
  • This job is a mostly a sedentary role but does require standing and bending at times.
  • Must have the ability to lift and carry 20 pounds within work area.
  • Able to stand for assembly line work.

Employment may be contingent on passing a drug screen and meeting other standards.
