Voter Registration Clerk

Our Mission: The Harris County Elections Administrator (EA) is committed to serving Harris County residents by providing essential voter registration and election services in an equitable, accessible, secure, and transparent manner.
Voter Registration Clerks perform a wide variety of routine tasks associated with registering voters and conducting elections including computer research, data entry, proofreading for accuracy, comparing and verifying signatures, and packing supplies for polling places. Ideal candidates for this position will possess data entry skills and the ability to work in small groups on detailed, repetitive tasks.

Duties and Responsibilities: 

  • Verify and process Voter Registration Applications
  • Answer phones and provide general election information to the public but not limited to the precinct number, polling location, dates/hours/location.
  • Link documents that have been imaged
  • Separate files to be imaged
  • Verify and Work SOS Reports
  • Verify felons using the Justice Information Management System
  • Verify and process electronic applications from DPS and Texas Online
  • Verify and process out of state notifications
  • Verify and process abstracts from other counties
  • Monitor and work e-fax requests
  • Process Opt-Out and Confidentiality forms
  • Assist with Poll Book Audit after election
  • Other duties as assigned

Education and Education:

  • High school diploma or GED equivalent from an accredited educational institution
  • A minimum of one (1) years of clerical experience working with the public in a high-paced environment

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • Knowledge of English grammar, punctuation and spelling.
  • Highly organized and detail oriented.
  • Excellent communication skills, both orally and in writing.
  • Must be available to work extended hours during elections or when otherwise needed.
  • Must be able to learn and retain large amounts of information.
  • Ability to work independently with little supervision.
  • Ability to meet multiple deadlines and initiatives.
  • Ability to work in a team environment.
  • Proven desire to excel at job tasks.
  • Excellent computer skills required.
  • Excellent reading comprehension and verbal/written communications skills.

  • Work assignments are diversified.
  • Examples of past precedent are used to resolve work problems.
  • New alternatives may be developed to resolve problems.
  • Interpret, comprehend and apply complex material, data and instruction - prepare, provide and convey diversified information, which may be of a technical nature.
  • A frequent volume of work and deadlines impose strain on a routine basis
  • Regular application of basic skills (calculator, keyboard, hand tools, eye/hand coordination)
Physical Demands and Work Environment
  • Minor physical effort required, which may involve periods of standing, walking, bending, reaching, stretching, climbing, lifting less than 20 lbs or similar activities (e.g., filing, delivering, sorting)
  • May require attendance at outside training seminars and/or conferences
  • Typically, an office environment with adequate lighting and ventilation, and a normal range of temperature and noise level

General Information

Position Type and Typical Hours of Work:  

  • Regular Full-Time
  • Monday - Friday
    • Weekends (If Necessary)
    • Must be available to work extended hours during elections or when otherwise needed.


  • $13.61 - $16.82/Hr
  • Based on 26 pay periods

Employment may be contingent on passing a drug screen and meeting other standards.

Due to a high volume of applications positions may close prior to the advertised closing date or at the discretion of the Hiring Department.
